ISLAND HOT SPOTS
POINT OF SAND
Just as it sounds, Point of Sand is Little Cayman’s best sandy beach located at the very eastern tip of the island. It’s Little Cayman’s answer to 7 Mile beach on Grand Cayman – but without all the people! Perfect spot to sit on the beach and relax, have bbq with friends and swim in the calm clear waters. Definitely worth putting on your to-do list at least once while you are here.
BOOBY POND & TRUST HOUSE
The most distinctive aspect of the Booby Pond is its resident colony of approximately 4,000 Red-footed Boobies (Sula sula). The reserve is the only breeding site for the Red-footed Booby in the Cayman Islands and the colony is one of the largest of this species in the region. Alongside the Boobies nest the impressive Frigate or Man-o-War birds. These can all be viewed from the viewing platform on the roof, before exploring the gift shop downstairs at the Gladys B Howard National Trust House
NATURE TRAIL
Little Cayman’s nature trail runs from Salt Rock Dock on the north side of the island directly across the island and is a great walk for the family. Make sure you take a camera as you never know what wildlife awaits you on the trail. Good walking shoes are recommended as well as water and sun protection.
PRESTON BAY
Preston Bay is tucked away on the southern shore near the eastern tip of the island. A beautiful walk along a boardwalk through native vegetation and an important nesting area for the one of our famous locals – the Sister Island Rock Iguana. Be sure to stay on the trail so as not to disturb the breeding areas and then enjoy a swim in the sheltered Preston Bay. A very safe spot for the whole family to enjoy.
LITTLE CAYMAN MUSEUM
When you need a rest from walking along the beaches and swimming in the crystal clear waters, make sure to visit the Little Cayman Museum located a short walk from the main store. Filled with Little Cayman history and incredible photo exhibits, you will not be sorry you took time out of your day to visit this historic site.
OWEN ISLAND
Located in the heart of South Hole Sound, a short kayak ride from the Southern Cross Club, experience your own Robinson Caruso moment. A perfect spot to really get away from everything, lay on the golden sand and swim in the warm calm waters. Owen Island is a very special place indeed. Pack a cooler and watch the sun go down over the island – a perfect way to end any day.
